Teachersā€™ Code-Switching in Classroom Instructions for Low English Proficient Learners

    Get PDF
Due to the alarming signals of declining proficiency level among English Language learners in Malaysia, this study set out to learn more about the learnersā€™ perceptions of the teachersā€™ code-switching in English Language classrooms. The objectives of this study were to investigate a )learnersā€™ perceptions of teachersā€™ code-switching, b)the relationship between teachersā€™ code-switching and learnersā€™ affective support c) the relationship between teachersā€™ code-switching and learnersā€™ learning success and d) the future use of code-switching in studentsā€™ learning. The study investigated 257 low English proficient learners attending Communication 1 proficiency course in a public university in Malaysia. A set of questionnaire containing 20 items using 5-points Likert-type scale was administered to measure the presence of code-switching in classrooms, the affective support and the learning success. The study proposed two hypotheses and the hypotheses were tested using Pearson product moment correlation analyses. The study found that learners perceived code-switching as a positive strategy due to the various functions it has. There are significant relationships between (1) teachersā€™ code-switching and learnersā€™ affective support and (2) teachersā€™ code-switching and learnersā€™ learning success. Learners also showed favourable support for future code-switching in the English classrooms. It is strongly believed that teachersā€™ code-switching is an effective teaching strategy when dealing with low English proficient learners

The application of Shariā€™ah contract in Islamic financing guarantee schemes of Credit Guarantee Corporation (CGC) / Husniyati Ali, Badrul Hisham Kamaruddin and Ismail Ahmad

Islamic financing is regarded as one of the financing alternatives that enterprises may utilize to fund their business. This financing type is characterized as free from riba and is based on illiquid assets which create real assets and inventories. The aim of this conceptual paper is to highlight the Shariā€™ah contract of al Kafalah that is used by Credit Guarantee Corporation (CGC) to attach to its Islamic financing guarantee scheme offered to business enterprises. Kafalah refers to an obligation to pay in the event the principal debtor is unable to honour his obligation. Through this Shariā€™ah contract, the CGC has indeed paved a new way of financing enterprises which are keen on having halal financing to fund their business activities. Most importantly, this addition of halal financing has accelerated the growth of Islamic finance in Malaysia

Using the Enterprise Architecture Approach to Analyse the Current Performance of Manchester United Football Club

    Get PDF
Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) is one of the most successful football clubs in England, if not the world.  However, the football club's recent performance in domestic and European tournaments has left a lot to be desired.  The recent 2021 Europa League final failure encapsulates the football club's decade-long condition.  MUFC's days of competing seriously for trophies in every tournament open to the club are over.  MUFC came close to winning the local league in the 2017 and 2021 seasons but fell short, just like they did in the previous Europa League final in 2021.  Numerous reasons have contributed to the current poor performance streak.  This study aims to apply an enterprise architectural framework to enhance football player performance and manager-player relationships.  This study discovered that MUFC might leverage big data analytics-IT integrated systems by following easy-to-understand enterprise architectural framework phases, which streamlines the adoption process for MUF

IR sensor for line following robot

    Get PDF
Generally, in a line following robot as shown in Figure 1.1, IR sensor is used for the robot to detect the line either white or black. The line can either be black on a white surface and white on a black surface. The sensors are installed at the bottom of a front part of the robot. Multiple IR sensors are needed in order to get a more accurate output. The IR sensors come with pair that is a receiver and also a transmitter, we called it Tx and Rexford this application, the transmitter and the receiver is placed near to each other to make it easier to detect the line. When the IR sensor is supplied with certain voltage, the transmitter will transmit the infrared ray. Receiver will receive it. It is usually use to detect an object and also to detect a line on a surface

Design Of Siw Bandpass Filter With 6 Db Offset

    Get PDF
This paper presents a novel design of SIW bandpass liter based on even- and odd-mode predistortion technique. This technique allows for the realization of lossy filter responses equivalent to lossless filter responses, although at an increased insertion and return loss. Hence, the filter can be designed with row Q resonators, which will significantly contribute to the reduction of its physical size and weight. An experimental third degree filter with Chebyshev characteristic demonstrated good measured results, which were in-line with the simulated results

This initial study set out to investigate university freshmenā€™s feedback on their online assessment experience using the universityā€™s learning management system in their English Language course which was conducted online. The objectives of this study were to investigate a) the learnersā€™ perception on their overall online assessment experience for a language course using the universityā€™s LMS, b) the learnersā€™ experience in completing a writing assessment and c) the learnersā€™ experience in completing a listening assessment. This basic mix-method study investigated 27 English Language learners of a public university in Malaysia attending Level 1 English proficiency course. A questionnaire containing 17 items using 5-points Likert-type scale was administered to measure their general online experience and their writing and listening assessment experience using the university LMS. This was followed by a round semi-structured interviews to probe further reasons behind their perception and experience. The study found that the freshmen expressed positive perception towards their overall online language assessment experience. They also indicated positive feedback for their experience in taking online writing and listening assessments Through the interviews the students highlighted that they are able to familiarize themselves and adapt faster by drawing on their previous experience during online learning at home during Covid-19 pandemic for their high school studies. They learnt to be patient and not panicky whenever there is any technical glitch which they had faced quite a lot during the pandemic. This shows that the students have developed certain level of literacy and digital education competency

Performance Analysis of Hexagon-Diamond Search Algorithm for Motion Estimation

    Get PDF
To achieve a high compression ratio in coding video data, a method known as Motion Estimation (ME) is often applied to reduce the temporal redundancy between successive frames of a video sequence. One of ME techniques, known as Block Matching Algorithm (BMA), has been widely used in various video coding standards. In recent years, many of these BMAs have been developed with similar intention of reducing the computational costs while at the same time maintaining the video signal quality. In this paper, an algorithm called Hexagon-Diamond Search (HDS) is proposed for ME where the algorithm and several fast BMAs, namely Three Step Search (TSS), New Three Step Search (NTSS), Four Step Search (4SS) as well as Diamond Search (DS), are first selected to be implemented onto various type of standard test video sequence using MATLAB before their performances are compared and analyzed in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), number of search points needed as well as their computational complexity. Simulation results demonstrate that HDS algorithm has speed up other algorithmā€™s computational work up to 56% on average while at the same time maintains close performance in terms of average PSNR to others
